I first delved into the world of computer programming at the age of 14, the first language I learnt was "Chipmunk Basic" for Macintosh OS 8 and from
that simple start my love of programming has grown immensely. To date I have developed projects in a multitude of languages including BASIC, C, C++,
x86 ASM, PHP, Javascript and Python. These days I focus on web-based applications and the range of markup and programming languages that I employ has
evolved accordingly. I am fluent in (X)HTML, CSS, XML, Javascript, PHP and MySQL.
My love of programming has driven me to partake in the creation of an immense number of projects which have given me experience in a wide range of computer related fields including (but definitely not limited to) basic cryptography, low-level hardware interfacing and control, web spider design, search-engine design, Artificial Intelligence and prime number sieving.
My interest in Artificial Intelligence, as inspired by Science Fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein, actually sparked my interest in programming in the first place. While still in high-school I taught myself the basics of A.I. theory and software development and eventually combined the two to become a semi-finalist in the 2002 Loebner Prize, the world's longest running international A.I. programming competition.
I strongly believe that good design, whether it be of the project you are creating or the layout of the code itself, should be an integral part of any software project. The importance of good design comes into even stronger focus when dealing with web applications because so many disparate languages and technologies are involved in their creation. My appreciation of great design was instilled in me at a young age by my Father, who has spent most of his life in the fields of Marketing, Advertising and Graphic Design.
Outside of my chosen field of employment I have an extremely wide range of interests and hobbies that includes a variety of Martial Arts and combat sports, collecting vintage guitars, songwriting, traveling, industrial design, alternative power, human performance augmentation and emerging technologies.
I currently live in Toronto, Canada after moving here in late 2006.
